How to make fake snow - Today I will introduce to you a very simple recipe for making fake snow at home.
Reading on internet about activities to do at home with a toddler, I found out about fake snow. I saw some beautiful pictures with babies playing with it, therefore I decided to make some for my toddler. I prepared the ingredients and together with my boy started preparing it!
What do you need to do the fake snow:
1 cup of bicarbonate
1 cup of sugar
1 tbsp of cream of tartar (this is not mandatory)
1/2 cup corn starch
2 tbsp water
Mix everything well and there it is, the fake snow!
Keep it in the fridge for a while before using it, in this way it will get a real-snow feeling.
Now, this is an awesome activity for your toddler but I want to be honest: I decided to throw it away after one day.
Why I decided to throw it away?
It has sugar, and even if you keep it in the fridge the sugar will melt while playing and the hands of you baby will be sticky;
This mixture stains! You will need to wash your babies clothes after this activity;
Even if kept in the fridge overnight, the mixture is not so beautiful the day after. My son refused to play with again.
By now we made 3 such DIY activities: fake snow, coloured rice and play dough. This is what I learnt:
As they are made of natural ingredients, the lifespan is short;
For this reason, their cost is quite high considering you will have to throw it away quite soon;
Don't trust the photos you see on social media related to this activities;
The quantity of ingredients you see on “recipes” you find online are often wrong: for example, if you are preparing play dough - knowing that the consistency has to be soft but not liquid - and you see 1 cup of flour and 1 cup of water, there must be something wrong!
Will I do other DIY activities? Yes, I certainly will. Buy I will open my eyes wide and check the ingredients very well before doing it.
Have fun and don’t forget to let me know what are your favourite activities!
